So ;]
I currently have 3 drives in my home server:
- 20GB system drive
- 40GB torrent drive ;]
- 320GB storage
I just got another 320GB samsung and I'm not sure what to do with it. Obviously I need more space for the storage. I don't need/can't afford mirroring. Striping on the other hand is not very appealing (the cheap ass PCI SATA1 controller is to damn slow to make good use of a single drive, so I would just get the risk with absolutely no gain).
I guess that AUFS is what I want:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AuFS
But I'm still not sure.
aufs-utils (sunrise overlay) has a ~* keyword. It's not good I guess...
Any other ideas? Anyone using aufs?
Also an important thing. I have no possibility of moving the data from the full drive if I were to make a striping RAID - but I think that it's possible to make a 2 drive array with 1 drive missing, copy that data on it and then add the second drive, right? Or is it just for mirroring? |

Did you consider using LVM? |

Actually, I didn't. Just started to read the HowTo ;]
Will get back here if for some reason it fails to answer some questions.
Ofcourse, I'm still open for suggestions. |

So I put together the big disks and the 40GB in one LVM. It's pretty cool - wish I knew about that when setting up my laptop. (maybe I'll be changing drives soon...) |
