I jt fin compiling X and the ati-drivers, i run the fgrlxconfig and set it up, to what seemed to be to me, correctly, however when i startx i get:

I have a Radeon 8500 if it matters

Make sure you don't have any DRM support in your kernel, and try setting UseInternalAGPGART to no.
