Hi there,
I have just almost got my Gentoo install just how I want it, I just have a couple of little bugs. The most annoying of which is:
As a user, if I run ethereal everything works fine, except I cannot capture traffic. If I try and run ethereal as root I get
Quote: |
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0
|
I have never had a situation where a user can do something which root cannot, does anyone have any ideas? |

As the user who uses X, type : " xhost + "
Then proceed as root. |

Cheers for the help guys,
I already knew about the xhost +, but working in an office full of Linux techies, I didn't fancy having spurious windows popping up all over the place and have gone down the sux route.

Use "xhost +local:", this will allow connections from any program running on your machine. |
