Troubleshooting (so-far):

- Read somewhere that a full "/var/tmp/portage" could cause this. Still receiving error after a "rm -r *" there.
- Noticed the following errors that occurred before "die":

Which version of libXrender do you have installed?

And what's the exact error-message related to Xrender.h in "/var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.0.0/work/openoffice-3.0.0/config.log" (which should be quite at the end of the file)?

Unfortunately, the Path to that file does not exist:

mxtuxb0x / # cd /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.0.0/work/openoffice-3.0.0/
bash: cd: /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.0.0/work/openoffice-3.0.0/: No such file or directory

Well, I have no idea what the problem ever was, but I'm way past the error I was getting before while emerging OpenOffice-3.0.0. Usually I would get the error within 5min of emerging. Its now been 45min and I'm crossing-fingers, so I'm closing this thread.

Thanks for all the help! :)

I'm having the same problem. I need to rebuild due to a library update, and the ebuild for ooo-3.0.0 has been silently updated to use a slightly newer build which fails with this problem, as does ooo-3.0.1. I investigated, and it seems that Xrender.h does define PictStandardA8, but the test program fails to compile.

The workaround is to modify /usr/include/X11/extensions/Xrender.h to #include <X11/Xdefs.h> first. The real solution is to patch the configure.in file with a modified ebuild, but that's too much work for me.
