Hello,
I've been troubleshooting this for some time now and can't seem to find any info about it on the forum or in google. When I attempt to install the mod_php module for apache2, I get the following error towards the end of the emerge:

Code:

Build complete.
(It is safe to ignore warnings about tempnam and tmpnam).

>>> Install mod_php-4.3.2-r4 into /var/tmp/portage/mod_php-4.3.2-r4/image/ category dev-php
Installing shared extensions:     /var/tmp/portage/mod_php-4.3.2-r4/image//usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20020429/
Installing PEAR environment:      /var/tmp/portage/mod_php-4.3.2-r4/image//usr/lib/php/
make[1]: *** [install-pear-installer] Segmentation fault
make: *** [install-pear] Error 2

!!! ERROR: dev-php/mod_php-4.3.2-r4 failed.
!!! Function php_src_install, Line 414, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)

It appears to be a problem with the pear install, perhaps a bug, but I'm kind of a noob and don't know what I should do from here. Any suggestions? Let me know if you need any more info....

More people seems to have this problem and it's reported to http://bugs.php.net but it seems closed due lack of feedback :(

Yeah, I'm not sure what I did to get it working, but I unmerged it, and then gave it a couple more tries and it eventually gave no error. I wish I had more of an explanation, but I guess the lesson here is to NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER as the song says.

Well I got it to compile. I had to emerge glib to get it to update properly.. after that it was a simple emerge mod_php

Hope that helps avoid someone 2 days of banging heads on the nearest hard object.

Hi all,

it seems that mod_php can't do well with other packages, if it won't emerge exclude package for package from your USE variables until it emerge successfully. This tip doesn't cover the "lib-failure" discussed by other threads into this topic.

Code:

USE="-X -java -snmp" emerge mod_php

take care
_kev_

P.S.: The error in my mod_php was the dependency on net-snmp. After excluding it, compiling works fine.

guys, im admittedly getting a bit frustrated with this trend, so forgive me if im being rude...

i realize for many users the forums are an invaluable place for information about Gentoo. However, I consistantly see posts here that have the vauge semblence of a bug report.

If you think you have found a bug:
First search bugs.gentoo.org for the same or a similar problem.
If that comes up empty, *please* file a bug report, including a detailed
description of the bug. This includes the last several lines of a failed emerge.
Also include the output of emerge info.

Gentoo developer time is limited, so its critical that bug reports go to Bugzilla.
TIA guys, and tell a friend!
