|

I have just upgraded to x server 1.5 and suddenly I can't use polish signs. And before the upgrade everything was fine. What could have changed? I checked 02locale and make.conf - I've got pl eveywhere set. _________________ Filip Gruszczyñski |

It's probably cause you didn't read the upgrade guide
(or failed to understand it). Hal settings override your
xorg.conf settings. |

I checked, if I had event interface compiled into to kernel. I copied policy into etc dir. I didn't know how to check, if I built xorg with INPUT_DEVICES="evdev", so I haven't checked that. Could this be that? _________________ Filip Gruszczyñski |

I have noticed some additional odd behaviour: when I hit ctrl+alt+f1 I am not transfered to a console any more. _________________ Filip Gruszczyñski |

How does your xorg.conf look like ?
Do you have anything special in .xinit/.xsession ?
Anything DE specific ? |

I really have no idea. Could you give some example of what could that be?
I'd really appreciate help on this. I am in the middle of wrtinig my thesis, and since it's written in polish, it's pretty inconvenient. I remember, there special ASCII codes for getting polish signs in LaTeX, but I remember that using it instead on natural typing is a great pain. _________________ Filip Gruszczyñski |

How you switch to English? Using DE-specific tools?
I use something like
Quote: | Option "XkbOptions" "grp_led:caps,grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp:lwin_toggle,menu_toggle:super_win"
Option "XkbLayout" "us,ru(winkeys)" |
Quote: | I can't use polish signs |
maybe it's not keyboard layout but font problem? hope this help

OK, at least you told, that you are using Gnome.
Actually, there no 'pl2' layout, it's 'pl',
'pl2' is a mapping for the console.
You've probably failed to follow the guide
and setup things correctly in hal.
As such, xorg sets your layout to us.
Setting it up is nearly trivial.
My file looks like this:
Code: |
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<deviceinfo version="0.2">
<device>
<match key="info.capabilities" contains="input.keys">
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbRules" type="string">evdev</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbModel" type="string">evdev</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbLayout" type="string">pl</merge>
<merge key="input.x11_options.XkbOptions" type="string">altwin:menu</merge>
</match>
</device>
</deviceinfo>
|
@g-user: what are you talking about ?
Polish is not Russian, no Cyrillic - no need to switch layouts. |

VoidMage No, it's just example changing keyboard layouts .. of course it must be "pl" in this case. Strange, i always think polish alphabet letters little different from us layout, so why no need to switch layouts while changing typing language? Maybe i'm don't understand something, still learning Linux. |

Well, as nearly everybody uses standard qwerty keyboards,
RightAlt+<some of the letters> is what pl layout provides. |
