I am running Virtualbox w/o usb support. I have installed the guest additions package through Virtual Box on XP guest OS. I also set up the folder I would like to share from my Gentoo box via the Virtual Box settings for the guest OS. However, I cannot seem to be able to access it anywhere. If I click on guest additions icon in XP under My Computer, it just re-installs the guest addition package. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks in advance!

Map yourself a new network drive and use the following:

\\vboxsrv\SHARE where SHARE is the name of your share obviously.

Thanks for the response the dopester. Anyway you can walk through this? Sorry, I need to brush up on my skills. I've been over sea's for a couple months and haven't had access to a pc running linux.

Sure.

You can add shares either through the Settings dialog of your virtual machine (under shared folders) or you can add a share on demand when the virtual machine is running via the dropdown menu.
To create a share you have to browse to the folder you want to share (Folder Path) and give it a name (Folder Name).

Now, in Windows XP you rightclick Computer - Map Network Drive or something like that, choose a letter for the drive and enter \\vboxsrv\name where name is the Folder Name you set while creating the share.

Thats it. :-)
