I installed kde, everything worked fine.

I typed reboot in a console window, and sound just stopped working. after running dmesg I got:

PCI: Setting latency timer of device 00:11.5 to 64
devfs_register(unknown): could not append to parent, err: -17

among the rest of my messages. It worked before I rebooted after I installed kde as I mentioned before. Should I stop kdm on bootup, and just type it in? It kind of defeats the point of the login manager.

I had similar problems with the same module....

I compiled a Kerne lwith menuconfig, setting only this module enabled. The Kernel wasn't able to load it. With alsa it was anther interesting thing: The alsa driver told me that es1371 is not supported. But that is wrong according to the driver list of the alsa page (sice Itried to compile many times, I'msure that I haven't got made an typo...)

I had this same problem with Libranet, another distro with kde 3, but Xandros based off of woody and with kde 2.2 has no problem. Any recommended sound cards (going to do a system upgrade soon).

If anyone can tell me how to get this woking, it would be appreciated (more money for ram, or processors. any news on an opetron port, would like dual opetron's).

At least this looks awsome, I have kde's theme completly customized after a day, down to the color scheme. Just need that sound, why would it just stop working? I got it up after I installed libranet (weird how I couldn't get Grub to work until I used another os) and then lost the sound. Gentoo is, by far, my favorite distro so far though (I like the emerge thing, just need a gui for browsing to the packages I want like in Xandros update).

Seems just to be outdated, I wish I could find my box to see what card I have, can't beleive I forgot after only one year. kde says Ensoniq 5880 AudioPci, but I am familiar with linux naming the hardware wrong (like my d-link dwl 520+ is texas instruments blah blah blah 22 mbps wlan.

For all I know it is the Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI card with the es1371. And the rest of this post is useless ranting which I eventually deleted before posting.
