Hi,
I use Japanese also with kinput2/canna. I am running canna on a Gentoo machine, and share it with another Gentoo machine. On one machine, canna works fine with kinput2, but the other machine has a problem; after entering roma-ji, when I hit space twice or three times, usually "ichiran"(candidate) list will come up, but in reality, in the candidate list, there are a lot of bogus letters. But somehow each item in the list corresponds to a correct Japanese term. What's wrong? How can I fix it? Or should I ask this on any other board?
Thanks in advance.
PS It may be due to a lack of fonts. What fonts are necessary?
BTW the one canna is running is Gentoo x86 (32bit) and the problematic one is Gentoo amd64 (64bit).
I noticed I cannot write Japanese with Emacs/tamago(egg, which was masked with ~amd64 keyword!!). Japanese fonts become square. So I strongly suspect lack of fonts. Now even "ichiran"(candidate) box is blank!!
PS2: I looked inside of /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/Kinput2 to investigate which fonts kinput2 uses, I found Code: | *Font: -*-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-c-*-iso8859-1
*KanjiFont: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-c-*-jisx0208.1983-0
*KanaFont: -*-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-c-*-jisx0201.1976-0 | and Code: |
*defaultFontList: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--14-*-*-*-c-* |
So I added media-fonts/font-sony-misc and media-fonts/font-jis-misc, but in vain. _________________ Tetsuji Rai
