Hi
Once kdebase has emerged can I use that whilst the rest of KDE is compiling, and then just restart KDE once its finished?

Yes
Also this way you can avoid merging kdegames and other stuff you may not need! _________________ warning: `class GroveImpl' only defines a private destructor and has no friends. |

Hi
Hey! I like a quick round of Kolf!! And I assume this means that I can emerge individual extras eg just multimedia (for NoAtun)?

Yes, you can.
Also you can exclude individual applications you do not want
ie.
Code: | export DO_NOT_COMPILE="koffice kfoo kbar ketc..." emerge kdebase |
KDE Program Documentation has the list of applicatioins in each package with descriptions. _________________ warning: `class GroveImpl' only defines a private destructor and has no friends. |

You can also edit the ebuild and delete the packages that you don't want...
Code: | nano -w /usr/portage/kde-base/kde/kde-3.1.3.ebuild |
Then edit this line to your preferences
Code: | RDEPEND="`echo ~kde-base/kde{libs,base,addons,admin,artwork,edu,games,graphics,multimedia,network,pim,toys,utils}-${PV}`" |
I usually take out toys, games, and addons. After you save the file, it will only emerge the packages that are left.

Yeah, and I think this should be the recommended way-- too many people complain about how long compiling kde takes when they could just be using their computers after kdebase is emerged.. it's probably not apparent the first few times. |
