I see that PAM is now forced upon one and that the -pam use flag has no effect any more.

Since I synced a couple of hours ago world has been adamant on installing pam, which I have had blocked since forever.

Safe from removing everything Gnome it seems, is there a way to successfully get rid of it and keep it off your system?
Code:

emerge -aNuD world

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

!!! All ebuilds that could satisfy ">=sys-libs/pam-1.0.1" have been masked.
!!! One of the following masked packages is required to complete your request:
- sys-libs/pam-1.0.4 (masked by: package.mask)
- sys-libs/pam-1.0.1 (masked by: package.mask)

For more information, see the MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge
man page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
(dependency required by "sys-auth/pambase-20090430" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "net-wireless/bluez-4.39" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "gnome-base/gvfs-1.2.2" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "gnome-base/libgnome-2.26.0" [ebuild])
(dependency required by "@world" [argument])

NOTE: pambase is also a new dependency required by libgnome it seems.

I have run into this problem as well. After upgrading to bluez, I was forced to install pambase and consolekit with the pam useflag. This has completely broken local logins!
I am now only able to login via ssh and start X through a screen session.

I just found a bug that documents our problem: https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=269373
Looks like a fix is on the way. :)

Yes, mine also came after a bluez update, so according to the bug report there will be a fix only maybe at the end of the month.

Bummer...

NOTE:
Let me change the title of the topic to more reflect the problem of bluez and pam.
