I installed vmware on an hp dv9000, then xp.

The keys work fine under linux, but in windoze under vmware (all of these refer to the keys above the numeric keypad):

The end key acts as if I had pushed the start button.
The page up key produces a slash (/).
The page down key acts as if I had pushed the page down button.

This has pretty much made trying to use windoze even more unbearable than usual.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Try adding the following to your ~/.vmware/preferences (just to be sure, close the app before doing so)

Code:
xkeymap.nokeycodeMap = "TRUE"
hint.xkeymap.notLocal = "FALSE"

That worked for me. If you got problems with other vms, try adding the above to the xp-vm only.

That worked! How on earth did you ever find those settings? I can't find much about them even searching directly for them.

Actually, those settings had a very bad side effect (completely screwing up my Dvorak layout making it impossible to type at all).

So I eventually found this page:

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1007439&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&dialogID=21294345&stateId=1%200%2021290958

and took out your lines, and pasted in all of the keycodes on this page. THAT worked (finally - I was getting ready to disable evdev).

It didn't seem relevant (wrong again :) ) to problems with the arrow, home/end and page up/down keys.

Did that. Thanks again.
