|
|
My machine experienced a power failure. After that, KDM's login screen showed me every single user in the system. That was easy to fix, but the other problem.. KDM's sessions such as gnome, kde, default & failsafe. Only failsafe works by now. I managed to add kde-3.1.2 on that list, but it acts like "failsafe".
Any ideas? |

What you are thinking to be KDM is actually xdm I had that happen to me as well.
Quote: | hi check to make sure your kdmrc file has not been zapped
location: /usr/kde/3.1/share/config/kdm
if it is kdm will not start.. replace it by copying from the /usr/portage/kde-base/kdebase/files/3.1.1a/kdmrc file that is there (pick your version if it is different)
Once you've done this you might want to set the kdmrc file as imutable: chattr +i kdmrc
Then nothing including root can zap the file unless the imutable attribute is toggled off.
If you are upgrading or changing any thing using the 'kde login manager' you will need to change the attribute back before using: chattr -i kdmrc
and lock it again when you are done.
(of course this must be done as root)
This is kludge because kdm does not behave properly when handling this file.

That was taken from this thread https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=53835
I think you just need to replace the kdmrc file and you will be back to normal as that is what fixed my problem.
