Hi.

My new laptop has an ATI Radeon HD 3670. I can only use FGLRX :'( since open source drivers do not play well with either 2D or multiple monitors. I'm hence using ati-drivers-8.593 from portage. The biggest problem with FGLRX is that when I leave my computer idle too long, the screen turns off but doesn't resume after I move the mouse or press a key -- I must power off my laptop with the power button; fortunately it's still responding. I've had to turn off power management in Screen saving properties (i.e. xscreensaver-demo).

Is there a fix or something? An option to add to xorg.conf?

Thanks for any hint//suggestion.

Try upgrading to catalyst 9.5 (ati-drivers-8.612), some people report that this bug has been fixed in this version.

I've upgraded. Now it's even worse: the screen turns black when X starts, the laptop doesn't respond but to the power off button! :evil:

Heck! Won't ever buy that crap anymore!...

EDIT: And now the worst of the worse! I tried to downgrade back to the latest version in portage. Now X crashes upon startup. Using the open source drivers is painfully slow when dragging windows or with scrolling in Firefox (e.g. radeonhd). Dual screen doesn't work. Working with xf86-video-ati gives better results but dual screen totally blurs my main laptop's screen, making it unusable. Anyways poor or no 2D acceleration. 3D acceleration inexistent.

Feeling desperate. Again.

<sighs/>
