|
|
I just took a look in /usr/lib64 and was surprised to see up to 10 different (old) versions of each library file. Many of the libraries are from packages that I no longer have installed. Why are these old library files not being uninstalled? Is there anyway to at least clean them up?
An example:
Code: | ls -l /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf*
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1093 2009-06-04 12:54 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.la
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 2009-06-04 12:54 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so -> libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1600.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 29 2009-06-04 12:54 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0 -> libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1600.1
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 112616 2008-07-08 14:33 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1200.10
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 112656 2008-07-17 13:01 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1200.11
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 112648 2008-09-22 16:38 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1200.12
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 108608 2008-06-01 16:24 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1200.9
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 112728 2008-10-02 16:46 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1400.3
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 142274 2008-11-06 08:45 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1400.4
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 112672 2008-12-02 10:45 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1400.5
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 114080 2009-06-04 12:54 /usr/lib64/libgdk_pixbuf-2.0.so.0.1600.1 |

Paludis won't remove modified binary files.
For example if you've prelinked your system.
No idea if that's the case here. |

Ah that must be it! I used to prelink, but longer bother. Looking more closely at the dates of the old files, they are all from when I had prelinked.
So, any suggestions on how to get rid of these old files? Deleting by hand would take forever, and I don't trust my scripting skills to not delete critical files..
EDIT: Nevermind. I just found that paludis has scripts to handle this clean-up. _________________ 2.6.34-rc3 on x86_64 w/ paludis
