Hello,
I finally ditched guarddog in favor of kmyfirewall for my iptables script help and I'm wondering, how unsafe is it on a home computer thats not on a network not to restrict outgoing traffic? I have incoming traffic blocked out except for my Apache2 port 80 but am not restricting any outgoing traffic at all. This allows me to use gaim, play games, emerge sync, etc etc without the problems of punching holes for each individual service I use.
So, is this bad? Thanks, as always, for the help.

i dont think that its horrible. It does however open you up to something like a trojan that would launch a connection from your machine to somewhere else... or software that is trying to report personal information on some obscure port.
I always leave all outgoing allowed but that doesnt mean its correct :) |

Thanks. I feel better.
This is so much easier as far as day to day use of the computer as a desktop box goes.
