This is strange. I've just upgraded to the 30 kernel and trying out webcam stuff.
D_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so cheese
gives me

sudo cheese only gives the throbber warnings, but works.
camorama works with the preloading, but doesn't othewise. |
