I used LiveCD (1.4-20030807) to boot the installation, but no success. In the first screen I chose the default gentoo kernel, but got stuck after it attached my hdd-drive Serial ATA harddrive (ST380013AS) on ICH5-SATA - intel 82801EB Ultra ATA.

I tried passing different options to the kernel (noraid, etc) without success. I read in a thread that if you pass the first screen you can download SATA support, how is it possible? Or do I have to first use old ATA drives to install gentoo?

all help is welcome :)

SATA is known to be buggy still so I'm not surprised you have problems with it :/

The upcoming redhat 9.093 beta-2 is told to have support for Intel SATA.

Anyone knows how to get it working in gentoo? Or is the problem that there doesn't exist any stable SATA drivers for linux at all?

I've got two Intel motherboards with SATA drives running right now.

Now, to be honest, I had to pull my hair out to get the first one running, but after I got the kernel compiled, away it went!

I'm using the mm-sources kernel (2.6.0-test2-r3) right now, and it works pretty damn fine for me.

I think I booted up with the smp kernel off the live cd to get started.

thanx gserack, smp got me pass the first screen.
Now i'm going to search how to compile the mm-sources kernel.

It couldn't be done with a single line, could it? :)
