There is no point in a RT kernel for a desktop or server(web, mail, etc.) system. Still it's an important development in the linux kernel for certain "embedded" use cases.
Or wasn't this the question? |

Hi,
Maybe for some music makers sound mixers, but RT is to target a very specific audience ; and therefore should be kept away for general purpose system and kept far away from servers.
More over, you can achieve a low-latency desktop with a normal kernel by activating the right options.

It isn't really even needed for music production anymore. Truth to tell, the times I used it, it was an unstable mess...in some cases making X painfully slow, and in worse cases, causing program crashes. I definitely agree it should be kept WELL away from servers. I would add it should be kept from anyone who wants a computer that works.
Blessed be!
