Ok it is a particulare request...
For a few reasons i need also win XP installed on the machine... but coz i was not planning it I always only had linux on it:
Code:
# fdisk /dev/sda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 30401.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)

Command (m for help): p

Disk /dev/sda: 250.1 GB, 250059350016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x07270727

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1               1       22410   180008293+   5  Extended
/dev/sda5   *           1           5       40099+  83  Linux
/dev/sda6               6         255     2008093+  82  Linux swap / Solaris
/dev/sda7             256       22410   177960006   83  Linux

Command (m for help):

When i try to install win XP (after 22410) on the install screen I get as a Drive letter, for the partition i want to install win into, anything but C: ... and the thing bugs me quite much.

Here come the questions:
1. Is it becouse the Installation reserve the letter C: to the partition that starts at the first sector of the disk?
2. If that is so how do I move my extended partition?
3. If it ain't so how do i get C: to be the letter of my win partition

Thank you

Shockwaver,

Windows must be installed to a primary partition.

You have some unpartitioned space so make a new primary partition (1..4) for it using fdisk.
It should install then.

Warning: installing windows will overwrite your MBR. You will have o reinstall grub to the MBR with the aid of a liveCD.

Thank you.
Yes I know the problem is that during the install, that partition will be not recognised as C: .. I would want it so... what can I do?
