How do I get a non root user to be allowed to mount something?
I would like my user (in the wheel group) to be able to mount the cdrom /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 and my smbfs with mount -t smbfs -o username=Administrator //192.168.0.2/D$ /mnt/smb. _________________ PowerBook G3, 400 Mhz, 192 megs of Ram Running Gentoo 1.4 and XFCE4 |

Add 'user' to the options in fstab...
For example, my /dev/cdrom-entry in fstab looks like this:
Code: | /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0 |

I let users mount devices with a "user" option in fstab: Code: | /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom iso9660 noauto,ro,user 0 0 |
but this lets all users mount/umount. I don't know how to restrict it to a group of users. |

You have to put the share in fstab and then pass the 'user' option again... I think, I never tried it...

I'm not sure how you would do that... any ideas on what the line would look like? _________________ PowerBook G3, 400 Mhz, 192 megs of Ram Running Gentoo 1.4 and XFCE4 |

I should think it would look like this:
Code: | //computer/share /mountpoint smbfs user,username=Administrator 0 0 |
Try it...
