gentoo ps3 64ul ARCH not set!!!

hi all i just reinstalled gentoo pon my ps3 64ul. System up and running fine but I carnt emerge anything, portage has a cry a about "ARCH is not set. symlink for make.profile" I've had a look in /usr/portage/profiles/default-linux/ for a powerpc profile but there's not one there. Ive make a symlink using /usr/portage/profiles/arch/powerpc/ppc64 but that did not work either.

If i use "eselect profiles list" it say something about "unreconised arch file a bug report"
I used the stage4-970-ps3_64ul.tar.bz2 stage to install.
