Since last friday I've had trouble logging into gtalk with pidgin: it doesn't work. Every time I login, I stayed logged in for about a second, then get disconnected when pidgin prints an error saying:

I've tried a couple of the solutions suggested from sites I found with google, but none of them seem to work.
Anyone know what to do?

Found a fix. Just deleted my old ~/.purple directory and everything was fine.

that didn't work for me. =\
i'm going to review my settings and stuff. forgot to backup my account xml so, i had to rebuild account list. icq, aol & yahoo all work fine. still getting the "read error" when attempting to connect to google talk.

ok, after some trial and error, i found that when i had added pidgin to my /etc/portage/package.use file that i included the use flag for gnutls. when i removed the gnutls use flag, and rebuilt with out gnutls support, it works now.
