Hi,
I have to access data on another machine in our LAN, unfortunatelly also on a dsl-router- / firewall- machine.
So, as I can't put the data to another computer I'd like to evoid a portmap server on the firewall machine for security reasons.
Is there another, more secure way to access the files directly (without copying it to my local machine with sftp, rsync etc before)? |

from the looks of it you are left with samba.. everything else I know of needs portmap..
but i really don't see the problem with running it on your firewall. As long as you block the rpc ports on your external interfaces what is the big deal?
