OK I have an intresting system here and I couldn't figure it out last night.
I have 2 hard drives that are connect to a crappy raid controller for doing raid0. It doesn't do true raid so unless windows has the drivers loaded on boot time it it just sees 2 hard drives. I fixed that, got windows all installed.
I have a third hard drive where the windows boot loader is held because I don't think I can boot from the raid'd drives.
My Gentoo install is on the third hard drive but where does grub go?
i have to have the windows booter on the third hd. I tried putting grub on one of the raide'd drives but it didn't work.
My wife suggested i just get a small usb stick and boot grub from there.
Is there any other way? I'm using grub .97 _________________ Never take raisins from a rabbit

because you boot from 3rd disk = your so call 3rd disk is your 1st disk for your computer.
This imply your raid disk are 2nd & 3rd so, and windows really hate to boot from a disk that isn't first
Please do "info grub" and lookout the windows section for a fix (mapping drive letter) |

Ah I fixed this by:
taking out the hard drive that was not on the array. Windows installed it's booter on that drive since it saw it as the first drive. I didn't know that you could boot from a stripped raid array, but you can. So i got the 2 windows installations working and booting on the raid array, then I plugged the third disk back in, with gentoo on it, and told grub to point windows 7's boot partition. It all works fine now! Thanks for the ideas and getting my wheels spinning.
When I boot it boots to grub, then grub has an option pointing to what loads the windows boot program. 2 menus but it works fine. _________________ Never take raisins from a rabbit |
