|
|
I'm having some difficulty getting X to recognise my keyboard. X starts up gracefully and the mouse works fine. However the keyboard goes completely mad.
I went through xf86config and noticed there was not a keymap for Sun keyboards. I'm sure as much as gentoo supports UltraSPARC platforms that there is probably one out there, but i'm having no luck finding such information.
Thanks
Erik

There are sun keyboards in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb/rules/sun.lst . You need
Code: | Option "XkbRules" "sun" |
and might want to read the readmes in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb . |

make sure all of this is in your /etc/X11/XF86Config:
Code: |
Option "XkbRules" "sun"
Option "XkbModel" "type5"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
|
unless you're outside of the US, then change it to whichever is applicable.
You didn't mention which keyboard you were using. This will work for Type 5, 5C, and 6. _________________ -Todd <todd@gentoo.org>

Thanks to both of your for your quick response. I will implement this and let you know. (Of course I know it will work) It's nice to help out a noob to gentoo in this manner, i'm an old solaris freak.
Cheers!

Does anyone know if they made USB versions of the Type 5 keyboards?
I think I've limited it down to that they didn't of the Type 4 and they most surely did with Type 6 but I don't know about Type 5..
Type 6 is awfull Type 4 or 5 is much better but if they aren't USB I can't connect them to my x86 PC...
Anyone know where to buy one? In the worst case I'd buy a Type 6 keyboard... oh, Im located in Sweden but I can buy from the states if thats easier |

No, the type 5 keyboards were sun connectors only, they look similar to a PS/2 connector but they are not, so you would not be able to use them on a PC.
And yes the type 6 keyboards are awful.
Also I am using a Sun Ultra 5, so just to clarify if you thought I was using this on a PC, I am not

I figured that you weren't on a PC, do you know of places that sell converters? |

I have yet to find a company that will allow you to use a Sun keyboard on a standard PC.
If you're looking for a PC -> Sun converter, Belkin, among other companies make them. But they are by no means cheap, unless you can find one on ebay. I have one here, but I also noticed there can be quite a bit of latency when typing when the machine is under load, and likes to repeat keys. The mouse on the other hand, works fine regardless. _________________ -Todd <todd@gentoo.org>
