In the docs it has hotplug as part of the install when you use genkernel, but not for manual config. Does this mean that if you manual configure your kernel that hotplug is not needed? Or should hotplug still be used?
From what it looks like, genkernel does the same thing except checks everything in "make menuconfig", which isn't needed. In that case hotplug would still be used then.
I'm new to how all this works, so I'm just looking for some answers to a few (simple) questions so I don't have to install gentoo multiple times. Thanks. |

Yes you can still use Hotplug with the manual install. If you do not use the config that comes with genkernel with all the modules enabled hotplug will only be able to check those modules that you have manually selected.

So if hotplug is not used, then what does the job that hotplug does during startup? |
