Recommendations?

At long last, I've finally arrived at a point where I can now think seriously about launching that attractive but fairly undemanding web site for my business. I have three workstations here running Gentoo with NFS connected by a 4 port ADSL router/switch and one, shared network printer. There's a fourth box which I've earmarked for use as the webserver. It sports an aging Intel AL440LX with a 333 Mhz PII, and a 40 GB HDD with a Promise ATA controller card I bought so as to squeeze some additional speed out of it. A client in the graphics business will be handling the design. But to all of the terribly prudent and cautious out there, after using it for almost a year, I'd like to say that I wouldn't even consider another distro for this webserver than Gentoo. No more Redhat, thank you; I'm in recovery.

In the process of acquainting myself with Gentoo over the last several months I've thoroughly embraced the notion of lean, mean and optimized. All of my workstations are set up that way and I'd like to apply that same principle to the webserver. Frankly, I would doubt that the site will draw very much in the way of attention anyway. At first, it'll simply be there to show the flag and to make minimal business contact possible. What do I need in terms of packages to get a site like this up and running? I assume that the Gentoo basic system would be required in any event.

Your recommendations would be appreciated.

What you need to install entirely depends on what you want to do with the machine.

Webserver needed? install one, such as apache
Does webmaster upload to website via ftp? install ftp server, such as proftp
Remote administrations needed? install and configure openssh server
PHP scripting to be used? mod_php
MySQL interation w/ php? mysql server

etc etc etc

Just make sure you've adjusted your USE settings with ufed (doing it manually for >200 flags is a bit much).
