Just got soundworking on my dell latitude cpi D266xt last night. The chip is reported to be a cs4237b, after some searching I was able to find some helpful information from this link. The short of it is that you need to specify the module parameters in /etc/modules.d/alsa. If you follow the recipie from the link you will want to drop the snd_ on the parameter names, if in doubt modinfo snd-cs4236 will dump out the exact parameters for that module in a somewhat less than easy to understand format.
my /etc/modules.d/alsa looks something like this
Code: |
# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
##
## IMPORTANT:
## You need to customise this section for your specific sound card(s)
## and then run `update-modules' command.
## Read alsa-driver's INSTALL file in /usr/share/doc for more info.
##
## ALSA portion
alias snd-card-0 snd-cs4236
## alias snd-card-0 snd-interwave
## alias snd-card-1 snd-ens1371
## OSS/Free portion
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
## alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1
##
# OSS/Free portion - card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
## OSS/Free portion - card #2
## alias sound-service-1-0 snd-mixer-oss
## alias sound-service-1-3 snd-pcm-oss
## alias sound-service-1-12 snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/dsp snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/midi snd-seq-oss
# Set this to the correct number of cards.
options snd cards_limit=1
options snd-cs4236 index=0 id=CARD_0 port=0x530 cport=0x210 irq=5 dma1=0 dma2=1 mpu_port=0x330 isapnp=0 fm_port=0x388 mpu_irq=9

hopefully this will be usefull to anybody with similar hardware |

Hi!
I have a Latitude CPi D233ST which is said to have the same audio chip as the D266XT. I have compiled my kernel with the CS4236 module and I have the same settings as you for the module... I have done update-module, and after reboot, the modules load, but I can't play sound. It always say Input/Output error.
Any idea?
