|
|
Quick question, I want to install gentoo from a livecd where I can start firefox and surf from the net while I'm installing. I would use the gentoo LiveCD but for some reason it's not booting properly. So my question is, will I have to do anything differently if I am installing from a liveCD (ie. knoppix) using a terminal window as opposed to using the gentoo minimal install CD? |

Yes, installing Gentoo from a Knoppix CD will work fine.
SystemRescueCD is also a good choice if you want X and Firefox.
ps. The only thing you might have to do differently with Knoppix is "mkdir /mnt/gentoo" |

Yes, I installed Gentoo from Knoppis which was great internet, games, etc.. ;P Just when you're mounting the partions to install the tarballs and stages it's a bit different then how the guide explains it! _________________ Gankfest™ (>")> ~*

It seems as though Knoppix does not have a 64bit LiveCD. Tried Ubuntu but for some weird reason Its asking for a password in order to login. ...Downloading the Fedora 11 LiveDVD maybe that one will work. |

Sysrescue is the best.
You can follow the hanbook verbatim.
Gerard. _________________ To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.

I don't happen to see a 64bit version of SysRescueCD. I am looking for a LiveCD that is 64bit and has support for ext4. |

Read my sig!
You can use it for both!
It's how you boot:
rescuecd will boot a 32 kernel,
rescue64 will boot a 64 kernel.
