How can I get gentoo to turn off my monitor (not just black screen, I mean turn it off/power save like other OS's do) if there is no input for X minutes? Also, is the ability to do this built in to a kernel made with gentoo-sources compiled with genkernel?

Console or X?
If the latter read up on DPMS under the XFree86 docs.
If you get in trouble can you provide what videocard and X version you are using?

For console I have about null idea but it sure would be nice. I suspect that the feature exisnt via the framebuffer if it exists at all.
