Hi,

I've got problem with installing grub from Gentoo installation.

My disk is

/dev/sda 1 ntfs
/dev/sda 2 ntfs
/dev/sda 3 ext2
/dev/sda 5 swap
/dev/sda 6 ext3

I've installed kubuntu on sda6 with /boot mountpoint on sda3.
Grub is working even when gparted changed boot-partition to sda1.
Now I want to clear/(uninstall kubuntu) sda3 and sda6 partitions and then install gentoo with grub again.
But how to do it? Where should I put my grub or maybe use kubuntu one?

Not sure I understand the question.

If you just do a fresh gentoo install, following the handbook, you can reformat /dev/sda3 and /dev/sda6 as ext3, and install gentoo on those partitions. As part of the gentoo install, you will re-install grub. The normal place to put the boot sector is in the MBR. Is that where you have it now ?

If you're simply concerned about preserving your grub config, simply copy the grub.conf file somewhere safe, and copy it back during the install (after you've reformatted the gentoo partitions).

Are you just wanting to keep your data that you have (like everything in your /home/$USER) but just have Gentoo? It might be the easiest to just back up that data and install Gentoo fresh. If I have misunderstood your concerns, please let me know.

If you are referring to the "boot" flag that can be set on a partition, this exists only for the benefit of DOS / Windows, and has nothing to do with booting Linux.
