Don't know if this goes here, but...
I get a 403 from /releases/x86/current/ and I can't find a webmaster's email address.
Regards,

Then try a different mirror.
What is the full address you are trying to reach? |

I don't get a /current/ directory, but I do have 2007.0, 2008.0, and autobuilds.
Pardon a possible newbish question, but if those are my only options which one do I go for for latest build? |

A recent/current live CD to start with. I'll probably end up going with a stage3 install from there. |

If you want the recent liveCD, I would say just start with the SystemRescueCD. It will make your life (well, at least your Gentoo installation) much easier. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

... or
a Gentoo install CD
or a Gentoo liveCD
Of course you can use the links at www.gentoo.org to Get Gentoo!
...and get the stage3 from the mirror list in the Gentoo Handbook, also at www.gentoo.org. |

To further save yourself some time during the installation, you can also get a newer stage3 GENTOO stable tarball from www.funtoo.org (there ARE Gentoo releases, not just Funtoo ones). _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

All well and good, but now that I can't get to current, where is it recommended I get the tarball from? |

I guess my question is now...
Since the Get Gentoo! link to the x86 arch is inaccessible, where do I turn to get the stage 3 tarball? The handbook just says find one, and the quick install guide references the tarball stored in /current/ which I can't seem to get to on any mirror. The Get Gentoo! page also advises not to use the 2008.0 releases as they are depreciated. What do I do now?

I would recommend getting the stage3 tarball from www.funtoo.org. You should go to the GENTOO stable builds and choose the one that is appropriate for your architecture. If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

On the Get Gentoo! page, it says:
Quote: | More releases are available on our mirrors in /releases/<arch>/autobuilds/. Use this directory if there isn't anything recent enough in current/. |
There is a recent stage3 tarball under the /releases/x86/autobuilds/20090728/ directory. These are "official" stages (built using tools created by Gentoo devs). I prefer these stages to funtoo these days, but the choice is yours.
Since there are no recent Minimal CD images available, the sysresccd mentioned above is a good choice. |
