So I downloaded the 'stage3-i686-20090714.tar.bz2 via lynx, now I cant find it.
Is there a default location where lynx downloads are located?

No, you must do first
Code: | mount <partition> /mnt/gentoo/
cd /mnt/gentoo
<download the tarball> |
And the tarball will be saved in /mnt/gentoo/
Read the handbook carefully |

The commands for d/ling in links and lynx differ!
With lynx ,if I remember correctly, when it finishes d/ling it asks where to save under what name.
Gerard. _________________ To install Gentoo I use sysrescuecd.Based on Gentoo, has firefox to browse Gentoo docs and mc to browse (and edit) files.
The same disk can be used for 32 and 64 bit installs.
You can follow the Handbook verbatim.

do you have another box so as to be able to do the install over SSH?
If so, it would be far easier to simply snag the link in a regular web browser, then wget the file by
Code: |
cd /mnt/gentoo
wget <paste the link here>
|
that's how i always do it |
