I've got a laptop setup as a frontend only. The thing is, I've noticed that sometimes when running mythtv my hard drive activity light starts blinking like there is constant disk activity. The light continues to blink after I exit mythtv. If I look up ps -A I find that mythbackend is running. I thought that was odd being I never set up a backend on this laptop, but I'm not sure of normal operation. So I then kill the backend and the light stops blinking.
Can anyone explain if it is normal for a backend to be running on a frontend only computer and why I might be seeing this disk activity? |

one thing i can think of is the hard drive ringbuffer... but that doesn't have anything to do directly with mythbackend. _________________

I'm not sure how or why your backend is starting, but if the backend is running when you don't want it to, chances are good that it isn't configured, and is writing log messages to /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log. On the last myth install I did, the backend was reading /etc/mythtv/.mythtv/mysql.txt, which I had not edited. This resulted in constant drive access as the backend logged a couple hundred MB of database access errors. |
