I will miss him.
I will miss him saying everyday on irc "Good Morning"
I will miss him getting his feelings hurt when someone was mad at him.
I will miss him. _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dabbott/ |

My thoughts and prayers are with his family members during this trying time. Ferris, you will be greatly missed here in the Gentoo community, and more importantly, in "real life" by all of your family, friends, and colleagues. Rest in peace. _________________ “Truth, like infinity, is to be forever approached but never reached.” --Jean Ayres (1972)

Wow, craziness ... just like that. We were working together on some stuff too, and though I'll admit we never quite agreed on certain stuff, one could *never* doubt his devotion.

Ferris always had the best intentions for Gentoo, although we didn't often agree which direction it should go. I appreciated his abilities to stay calm under fire, to always be reasonable, to listen to others, and to respect their wishes. |

that is... surprising. And bad. I liked reading his stuff on gentoo-dev (which I read on marc...). Not that I was always on his 'side', but....
really bad. _________________ Study finds stunning lack of racial, gender, and economic diversity among middle-class white males

I cannot put in words the sadness I feel. I have only the deepest respect for his accomplishments and devotion. Had he announced his retirement, I would have, loudly, raised my voice to reconsider. That is not how life works. I should have said thanks more often. |

This is shattering news.
Ferris, you were the one I would turn to when something was wrong. And I'm sure I wasn't the only one. You were the sane voice of reason that would put me back on track before I did anything stupid. Always ready to listen, advise and comfort.
When you're settled up there and your internet connection is sorted out, please send a ping on freenode. We're missing you already.
Denis. |

I'm very sad to hear that Ferris has passed away.
As others have already expressed, even though I didn't always agree with him, I truly believe he always had the best interests of Gentoo at his heart. I enjoyed very much working and talking with Ferris and we shared some concerns about Gentoo's structure and organization model. It was a pleasure to work with him in the User Relations, Developer Relations and SPARC teams. I'm sorry that I won't have the chance to work with him in the merger of User and Developer Relations and that I won't be getting more feedback from him regarding my proposal to review Gentoo's metastructure.
RIP Ferris. _________________ Jorge.

Terrible news indeed. I don't have any sparc machine which probably explains the very few occasions that I've read anything from him. I lack the time to do irc as well, but well, when a person parts away it's never a good thing. Specially when it's a valuable member of a community like this one. Gentoo could for sure use the help of knowledgeable senior members like him.
I express my condolences here, I'll not pray because I am not religious, but I can swear that that doesn't make me any less sensible or empathic.
Respectfully and wholeheartedly, with the best will I can put: may he rest in peace, his memory will last a long time around here.
Best regards, just in case that I am wrong about my atheism and he is still somewhere. Gentoo will miss you |

A personal loss and a loss for Gentoo. Always quick to answer my questions, he was proof friendships can be forged over the ether.
Rest in Peace, Ferris.

I received notification via a friend's notice, and after reading all of the replies here, wow, very powerful that this person has touched so many lives. I wish all of those who will miss him peace in the midst of their grief. I also ask that each one that has benefited from knowing fmccor continue his way, and touch other's lives in much the same way. I never had the opportunity nor the pleasure of meeting him myself so I feel I have missed a great opportunity, but if those influenced by him can generate the response that I have just read then I can believe with confidence that a part of him will live on. Our deepest condolences for all who grieve for fmccor. _________________ "For those that understand Linux, no explanation is necessary, for those that do not understand Linux, no explanation is sufficient, For those that think they know everything, any answer is a waste of time." |
