|
|
For the last couple of weeks, the iwl4965 on my laptop keeps dropping out. It seems to happen more with higher traffic (e.g. when running an rdesktop connection) but I haven't found any specific triggers yet. When it dies, grellm shows me a series of 60-byte outgoing packets about one every second but there is no useful connectivity.
Once this has happened, sometimes a net.wlan0 restart can fix the problem, and sometimes only a reboot will do which can be a serious PITA given it can get to dropping out every five minutes.
I'm getting this in my log, but the firmware I'm using seems to be up to date and not corrupt.
Code: | Aug 13 13:59:30 cthugha iwlagn 0000:05:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x82000000.

Kernel is 2.6.30-gentoo-r4 #2 SMP PREEMPT.
Any help gratefully received. _________________ Matt.

matt, did you try a different kernel?
I mean keeping the same firmware and check
different kernel versions. |

I've actually found this bug report, which looks like my issue:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=261248
I'm rebuilding the module with debug support to see what I get. _________________ Matt.

I've also now found evidence of a bug in the latest firmware (under 64bit at least) which may correspond to the date I started getting trouble so I'm hunting for an earlier version to see how I get on with that.
EDIT: Yep, moving to the previous release seems to have fixed the problem, and coincidentally has make the compositing in kwin more reliable too. _________________ Matt.
