This has been bothering me for ages, years literally, but seems to be completely random and I've never asked about it.
Sometimes, when I try to save a file in nano, I get an error in the status bar, like this:
| Code: | | Error writing backup file /home/i92guboj/backups/nano/!home!i92guboj!server!www!bbclone!conf!config.php~: operation not permitted |
Some other times it doesn't bother me, and I can save the file without any problem. It's strange, the driver is not full, there are free i-nodes, etc. etc. Sometimes fails, sometimes it works. Quite annoying, overall when you have done some intensive modifications into a config file and you have to close nano without saving the file because of this silly bug or whatever it is.
Has anyone experienced the same problem?

| Yes to both. As said, the problem is completely random, or so it seems. |

| Yes. Besides, it's not a recent thing. It has happened randomly for a long time now, in different fs's, and only with nano. |

| Try strace'ing the nano process from another window. Maybe you can record its system calls when this issue happens again. |

I am trying that. If I only had a solid way to reproduce it... I can only wait until it bites again  |
