gentoo 1.4 with gentoo-sources 2.4.20-r6 on a tyan with 2 athlon mp
it seams that during init process the machiane go to sleep. I press the "any
key" and it wake up ... for 3, 4 seconds only ... it go sleeping again, I
press again the "any key" and it wake up again ...
what does it mean?
my worst kernel config?

Maybe this is an ACPI issue?
Try disabling APM, ACPI - all power saving
if that doesn't help, try building a very basic kernel that's just enough for booting the system, then add functionality and reboot until you hit the bug again |

i've just disabled any AMP and ACPI feature ... nothing has chanced. |

have you tried vanilla-kernel? gentoo-kernel has many patches that can cause problems. |

I have not tryed the vanilla, but the gentoo-r2 doesn't have this problem. |

Strange, but I guess the gentoo-kernels are still tweaked too much. I stopped using them some time ago. |
