|
|
I am sure that this is a bug in the live cd:
mount: Mounting /newroot/dev/cdroms/* on /newroot/mnt/cdrom failed: No such file or directory
---- CD not found
umount: /newroot: Device or resource busy
This is a problem with scsi cdrom drives for some reason. I have read at least 50 posts dating back to January about this problem with numerous suggestions. None of which work. I am dissapointed that no developers have bothered to comment on even one of the threads confirming the problem. (at least not one that I saw)
Just a note: If someone is installing Gentoo on a server there is a chance they aren't just a dumb user, so I'd pay attention to their posts.
I have three raid controllers on my server. Two AIC-7880 and a PowerEdge II. I have 6 hotswappable scsi drives on the PowerEdge and a scsi cdrom on the second AIC-7880. doscsi DOES NOT scan all the scsi adapters. There does not appear to be a reasonable solution other than using a different distro to install, then using portage to switch to Gentoo.
Conclusion: if Gentoo cannot support basic functions needed for server installs like scsi cdrom drives, Gentoo is not ready for server environments, unlike many of the posts i have read to the contrary.
If there is a developer that would like to mention to all the other people having this problem that it is acknowledged as a problem and being worked on, it would make the situation much easier.
