|
|
Openoffice crashes without producing any errors. Neither when launched from the command line. Deleting user profile, OSL* file in tmp and few other suggestions I've already googled out don't help one bit. Any openoffice application I try to launch shows the small splash screen for one second the just quits. Dmesg does not report anything either. I've tried openoffice-bin from version 3.0.0 through 3.1.1 - same result each time.
Will try to compile openoffice (without the -bin) as soon as I manage to download all the source code (I'm on a veeeery slow satellite link at the moment and it takes ages to download anything).
I'm working on kde-4.3.1. I also have fluxbox installed and the same thing happens there.

Did it ever work but now stopped working?
I really don't know anything, but I suggest:
- read trough the ebuild - it is mentioned, that it is a fragile build and some optimization flags are already filtered out
- change your CFLAGS/CXXFLAGS (at least for the build) to something like: "-O2 -march=core2 -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe" (even -O2 is filtered out by the ebuild if I read it correctly)
It is also mentioned that python might have to be rebuilt with(out) some flags prior to trying the build.
But the binary version also does not work - it might be something else then (again: your CFLAGS ?).

[update]
after emerging openoffice (without bin - compilation of about 3,5 hours) this software is working ok.
nonetheless the question of openoffice-bin - which until recently worked ok - remains: why would it stop working and even previously working versions (3.0.0 for example) start crashing all of a sudden....
if anybody has any experience with this please respond
thanks |

Openoffice-bin crashed here after I select an Item from the menu.
Since I started it with:
Code: | OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="gnome" ooffice -writer | it works for me. Not the best, but I need it every day and I didn't find a better solution. |

If it works by forcing the theming to GTK (by way of OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP="gnome") it might be related to the KDE theming of openoffice -- which would also make sense why both the binary and the source versions are crashing for you. Have you tried emerging with USE="-kde"?
BTW - I actually put these two lines in my .bashrc, since I like the GTK theming of OpenOffice, although I run FVWM not KDE.
Code: | export GTK2_RC_FILES=~/.gtkrc-2.0
export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=gnome |

The first thing I tried was USE=-kde, but without success.
Edit:
Now I started oowrite the normal way and everything works like it should. So it seams the time solves it for me. |
