Hi there,
I've updated my kernel to 2.6.31 and ati-drivers to 9.9-r2. Everything works great, but when i want enable composite in System settings I got crash. I mean, whole settings work great, but when i click on "Desktop" to enable composite i just see KDE crash notification. Here is error message from this box:

Is there any other way to run Kwin with composite ? I love so much this feature, I can't live without it. And why systemsettings crashes ? Something wrong with fglrx ? |

I've heard things. 
Have you tried the open source ati drivers x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati?
Are dbus and hald started?
Are you in the plugdev and messagebus groups? |

Now something strange happend. When i started KDE 4 i have enabled Composite. But i don't know how. Normally when i turn on Gentoo, i have to go manually go systemsettings->Desktop->Effects and press "Resume Composite", because - i don't know why - compositions are disabled by default on my box. But i run Gentoo and voila i have special effects. I'm sure when i reset my laptop I'll never get it on again :/

I don't know what' going on. I've only installed kernel 2.6.31 and ati-drivers 9.9-r2. Ok, maybe i'll never solve this problem but tell me at least how to enable composite on start with KDE4 session. Is there any option ? |

In Menu -> System Settings -> Desktop -> Desktop Effects
is Enable desktop effects selected? |
