Hi,
Im am a nOOb to Linux and so when installing Gentoo I made areally stupid mistake. When setting up Grub I have done the following
Grub>
>root (hd1,0)
>setup (hd0,0)
>quit
After realising that I should have done 'setup (hd0)' instead of above I have gone back into Grub and correct this...However..this is where the problem starts...I have according to Grub standards hd0 and hd1. I have winXP on hd0 and Gentoo on hd1. When my comp boots in Grub if I select Gentoo installation everything is fine, but once I select winXP on hd0 I get Grub again...The only way I can fix this is to put the winXP CD in and to fixmbr and fixboot in winXP recovery mode...Is there a way that I can do this in Gentoo...Have tried with Grub and fdisk but cant find anything...Any help will be much appreciated
Thanks |

Just fix the MBR with the windows cd and go back and reinstall grub and replace setup (hd0,0) with like you said (hd0). This will overwrite the windows MBR and grub will function as it should. |

Forget my last post, I'm quite sick and my brain isn't functioning properly. I'm not sure what setup (hd0,0) would do exactly to your first windows partition, but it sounds like you are going to in fact have to use the windows cd to fix it. You told it to install on the first partition of your first drive, which might have damaged windows somewhat. I don't think there's anything you can do through Linux, sorry. |
