I'm new to Gentoo (played around with RedHat a bit) and I'm running into some problems. First, once Gentoo boots I'm placed in the terminal, X never starts. What's even more interesting, commands like startx or xf86config are not available to me. I've tried modifying the rc.conf file but with no results. The only thing that comes to mind is that I don't have the module(s) required for my video card (GeForce FX5200) which leads to another problem I'm having. While emerge-ing some of the stuff during installation was ok, I have no idea where the listing of all available modules is located and how I would go about finding the name of the module that I need. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. |

You need to emerge nvidia-kernel, which in turn will merge XFree 4.3 because it's a dependency. Gentoo by default is a command-line only distro, you need to manually install XFree and KDE and everything else. _________________ AMD Athlon XP 1700+
