|
|
My box becomes very slow when copying a large amount of files from one partition to another.
When copying files from sdb3 (ReiserFS) to sdb5 (Ext3) (internal sata disk) the load average slowly climbs to somewhere around 9 and my box becomes very slow.
hdparm output:
Code: |
root@pearl linux # hdparm -tT /dev/sdb
/dev/sdb:
Timing cached reads: 3464 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1732.17 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 198 MB in 3.01 seconds = 65.84 MB/sec

how do you copy those files? drag-n-drop? CLI + cp?
What scheduler are you using (cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler should give you a hint)
How much RAM is installed, and how much is used (during copy) |

Copied them using Drag n Drop @ Gnome + nautilus.
Problem persists when copying in a terminal.
Scheduler:
Code: |
sabbie@pearl ~ $ cat /sys/block/sdb/queue/scheduler
noop anticipatory deadline [cfq]
|
2GB of memory is installed, 1.2GB is used, this doesn't really change during the copying. Swap file is at ease. |

If you are working on a 64bit system then this thread might be relative:
AMD64 system slow/unresponsive during disk access (Part 2) _________________ Important German:- "Aha" - German reaction to pretend that you are really interested while giving no f*ck.
