iptables modules: autoload failure

I've installed gentoo 1.4 on desktop system. Kernel was compiled with iptables options enabled as modules, and module names were added into /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 by hand. After system was rebooted, rc-script tried to load modules. Unfortunately however all load trials resulted failure.

What I am suspcious of why this failure happened is due to wrong module names added into /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.4 but I am unsure my suspicion makes sense. What is your opinion why this failure happens? How do you solve this failure if you were me?

cat you give the output of: /sbin/lsmod
this will help to see what modules you are loading.
also, are you getting error messages when you try and modprobe the module ?

Have you build and installed the modules after activating them in your kernel configuration? ( ... make modules modules_install ...)
