weird issue after the 3rd install..isa modem wasnt detected

hey there. i got isa us robotics modem.
well, the thing is, i reinstalled gentoo like 3 times.
mostly because of the can't modeprobe module msg.
and the square fonts. i figured there has to be something i've done wrong.
anyways. in the 3rd time. it was really great, no error msgs, no modprobe msgs, and kde worked just fine, the only thing i didn't do was "creating a timezone file" . only set the date.

but when i tried wvdialconf didn't detect my modem. also with kppp when i set it to ttyS2. isapnptools aren't on the live cds

i've installed gentoo from both iso CDs. not so many programs are there . but how come my modem didn't work. i dont recall doing anything wrong

right now im setting dhcp , cuz i have windows xp , can connect them through a cross cable., just when i was happy that all the problems were fixed.

hmmm never mind, i'll install it again.
somehow people say that its because i haven't configured my ppp correctly. though im pretty sure i did

cat | grep ppp doesn't show anything, neither dmesg | grep ppp
how ever dmesg | grep PPP shows there is
PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
PPP deflate Compression module registered
PPP bsd compression module registered

i did install isa pnp tools, didn't work. read alot of manuals
so if anyone knows the correct settings for ppp , maybe i missed something
though im sure i did since it worked in the 1st 2 previous attempts

.... oh well.
