My Gentoo 1.4 die everyday. After checking many thins Now I suspect that the box is dead because of idle.

It is free 1.4 install with xfs source (2.4.0) with acpid running. Howerver, the emerge acpi fail because all of ebuilds masked.

Will try another kernel fix this problem? What kernel is better, I need xfs and reiserfs.

well, sounds like a memory problem ... either memory leakage in the kernel, in that case a newer kernel might help (i am really happy with the new 2.6.0-test4) OR it might be defective memory chips, which you can check with memtest86 ... but it's probably one of the drivers in the kernel ...

I have run memtest86 for about 4 hours and after 4 passes there are no errors.

I think the problem is not overheat also, because of 4 hours run it did not stop even now.

What else can I check? It hang after I upgrade the system to 1.4, it did not have such problem for about 1 year running gentoo and debian.

well, i would try a diffrent kernel then ... the mm-sources (which are imho the best of them all) do contain both - reiserfs and xfs.
