How do I make NetworkManager use ModemManager?

Thanks,

I have a similar issue I think.
I believe that you should emerge modemmanager to get it working with NetworkManager, but I have problems with solving blocking issues with other packages.
Code:
# emerge -av modemmanager

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild     U ] sys-apps/usbutils-0.86-r1 [0.73] USE="zlib -network-cron" 241 kB
[ebuild     U ] sys-apps/util-linux-2.16.1 [2.14.2] USE="crypt loop-aes nls perl%* unicode -old-linux (-selinux) -slang (-uclibc)" 3,465 kB
[ebuild     U ] sys-fs/udev-146-r1 [141] USE="devfs-compat%* extras%* (-selinux)" 528 kB
[ebuild  N    ] net-misc/modemmanager-0.2_p20090925  296 kB
[blocks B     ] <sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.8 ("<sys-fs/e2fsprogs-1.41.8" is blocking sys-apps/util-linux-2.16.1)
[blocks B     ] sys-fs/device-mapper ("sys-fs/device-mapper" is blocking sys-fs/udev-146-r1)

And I think that I need device-mapper on my system.
What have you tried so far?

Nothing except emerge NetworkManager and ModemManager.

Modem is detected however some other stuff goes on:

A small disagreement in the log: kernel indicates GSM and NetworkManager indicates CDMA.

I have given up modemmanager (at least for now), and are trying to get things working with wvdial instead.
Anyway, my kernel does not mention anything about radio access technology:
Code:
# dmesg
...
usb 3-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 25
usb 3-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usbserial_generic 3-1:1.0: generic converter detected
usb 3-1: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0
usbserial_generic 3-1:1.1: generic converter detected
usb 3-1: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB1
usb-storage: probe of 3-1:1.2 failed with error -1
usbserial_generic 3-1:1.2: generic converter detected
usb 3-1: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB2
usb-storage: probe of 3-1:1.3 failed with error -1
usbserial_generic 3-1:1.3: generic converter detected
usb 3-1: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB3

This is after a successful (I believe) usb_modeswitch.
I am running on 2.6.30-gentoo-r4
