Total shutdown on LiveCD boot - ibook/g3/500 please help

I have a md5-verified gentoo PPC 1.4 KDE/Gnome livecd that I burnt on my windows machine, using nero (I do not have a burner for my mac). When booting from the cd it passes to the selection ment allowing me to select the standard or other normal option. Either choice leaves with the same conclusion:

Linux begins to boot, but within seconds and following a bunch of hardware-related looking data the iBook turns off.

Is this familiar to anyone? I've searched through the forums and faq and haven't found a similar instance.

I've tried reseting my NVRAM. I've tried passing hda=16383,16,64 too it based on a somewhat-but-not-quite related hint I found on the board.

Please help if possible.

Its better burn the CD with "Disk Copy" (Os X).
I have the same iBook of You and its work very well
KDE & Gnome.

Techra I too am having that problem, although its on a newer G4 tower. I am able to boot the live-safe option from the live CD. If I let it boot the "live" option then I get that quick hardware dump, and it freezes.

I doubt a bad cd burn is the problem, it seems to be a problem with ppc-sources maybe. Has anyone here compiled a kernel out of the most recent ppc-sources? Did it work with a framebuffer? Help us out, please!!

A few things regarding this:

1) Check this thread, it's talked about there a bit with a possible workaround (booting a Debian disk image - sucks, and not really acceptable for me, but..)

2) In order to get a better grip on the problem, did you at any time install one of the Panther betas? Reason I ask is.... #3...

3) benh (kernel developer) is aware of this - there's a short blurb about a "Panther Poison Pill" at penguinppc.org. Basically, it sounds like Panther automatically upgraded the PMU firmware during the install, and that the later versions of the benh kernel (which the LiveCD uses) don't understand the new firmware. benh has supposedly fixed this in his latest rev.

Dunno if/when the Gentoo folks here are gonna respin the LiveCDs so that it includes the latest benh kernel. Hopefully, it'll be soon - I really want to wipe this Yellow Dog install and replace it with Gentoo on this box. (I installed Panther too, and now the LiveCD doesn't work.) Oh, yeah, don't even bother trying to downgrade the firmware - I tried that, and Apple's installer recognizes the fact that there's a newer version installed and aborts.

Without fully saying that I may have done anything similar to what you describe, I will say thank you and remain ambiguous. I take it the new cvs builds have the patch? I don't particularly need the LiveCD I guess. I'll look at the work around.

Would it be possible to compile the new benh kernel on a non-gentoo x86 linux system and use BootX to boot it from OS9? I know gcc is supposed to be cross platform, but whether it likes to play fair is another story....
